Student Research Project

OurTrees.Live is a complete platform for supporting student based environmental research, specifically based around trees. The platform includes web-enabled tree growth sensors (dendrometers) and the website for data collection and analysis. Data collected from your tree is shared between you, other schools and researchers.

The program is for young scientists interested in:

  • Environmental science
  • Conducting field work
  • Exploring social/climate issues

A typical student based research project is based on the following steps:

  1. Connect with a mentor/advisor at your school.
  2. Identify research subject (your tree) and research project goals.
  3. Purchase a Mini Field Station with Dendrometer sensor and 1 year OTL subscription.
  4. Install your Mini Field Station and Dendrometer sensor on your tree and collect data through your study period.
  5. Analyze your results.
  6. Write your science report based on the scientific method.
  7. You can optionally submit your report to be published through the OurTrees.Live website.

Potential Research Areas:

  • Comparing your tree’s environment with other environments
  • Exploring socioeconomic factors.
  • Evaluating hydraulic factors.
  • Factors related to influence of cultivation

To get started, you can email your research proposal to info@ourtrees.live for a scientific review and feedback. If you have questions about connecting with an advisor or identifying a tree for the project, you can also email info@ourtrees.live.
